Using the Coolscan V ED
This film scanner has an auto exposure option which works well but I think the results are better when I switch that off and use the one standard exposure. I use ROC (which restores colour in old pictures) and GEM (which reduces graininess). A setting of three for both works well for me at the moment while scanning old slides. ICE should never be switched off so effective is it.

Scanning Slides and Negatives

I am using my one-armed post-bicycle-stack days to scan more of family slides. I am using a Nikon Coolscan V ED which can scan 35mm film strips of 6 or single slides. This scanner makes huge files and does good dust and scratch removal called digital ICE. In photoshop I do some colour correction with curves/levels or "set white point". Sometimes I increase contrast using levels to blacken the blacks in these 40 year old pictures then I boost saturation.
